January News

Welcome back!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and were able to enjoy your time with your family.  J We were traveling like crazy from eastern NC to visit my family down to SC to visit my husband’s family and stopping in to see friends along the way.

During our few weeks back before track out we will be learning about the different types of fiction in reading and characteristics of each type.  We will be reading examples of each type of fiction.  In math we will dive into division head first.  We have started with a review of 3rd grade division and will move quickly into more complex problems with larger dividends and quotients with remainders.  In social studies we have already been reading about the piedmont region of NC.  We are working on taking notes on the region to prepare for our next in class project!! We will start this project next week and will work on it each day.  These will be due the week of track out.  Once we track back in we will start our new science unit.  We will have live animals in the room!!!  We will have African dwarf frogs and fiddler crabs.  The students will create habitats for the animals and observe them in their habitats.  We will learn about animal adaptations and the animal life cycle.  The animals are VERY stinky!!!  It would be wonderful to have some air fresheners to help with the animal odor.

RRM updates

We have already taken two loads of clothing, toys, and supplies to the Raleigh Rescue Mission!!!  We have a little bit of food in the room that we will take before track out.  Please continue sending in donations to help out the shelter.  I am working on scheduling the optional visit over track out.  I will keep you posted once the date is set.

Enterprise Day Updates

We have been learning all about the NC economy in preparation for Enterprise Day.  Students have been working on writing letters of request to various businesses asking for donations to use during the auction that will be held the day after Enterprise Day.  If any of you work for/ own a business that would be able to donate anything for the silent auction please let me know.  We need ALL of the donations we can get.  This is the big reward to celebrate the success of E.D.
