The Nitty Gritty
Math: We have been working hard on 2 digit times 2 digit multiplication, some are even up to 3 digit times 3 digit! Keep practicing facts nightly- knowing the facts is the only way to master the more difficult multiplication problems. We have been working on long division also, both with and without remainders; you must know multiplication to master division. This week I introduced finding the median, mode, and range for a set of numbers. We will continue to work on multiplication and division as we move on to other math objectives.  Soon we will be working on decimals.Â
Reading: We are working on story maps to identify the plot (problem and solution) of fiction stories. We will be learning point of view and character mood and motivation soon. We will increase our daily time spent doing sustained silent reading by a little each week to build stamina for the upcoming EOG’s in June.  Â
Writing: We are in the process of writing our scripts for the NC attraction photostory that the students began in media.Â
Science: We are about to wrap up the animal unit. We have studied the behavior, habitat, feeding habits, and adaptations of fiddler crabs. A science project was just assigned and will be due on April 13. The students will be creating a new species of animal!Â
Social Studies: We will continue our studies of NC. We will be moving on to the mountain region (my favorite!) soon.Â

THANK YOU!!!!!
I know I sent an email, but wanted to send another GIANT THANK YOU to all of the parents who helped with Enterprise Day!! It was a huge success! The kids learned so much about the economy and really enjoyed themselves in the process. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came in for set up, clean up, and the auction day. Thank you for the parents who were able to come to support their kids during the actual Enterprise Day. Thank you to all of you for helping your child gather the necessary materials to make their store a success.Â
